It's already February now (where does the time go??) and that means two things : A, time to say goodbye to those cold days and spring is coming on our way ; B, IT'S TIME TO START PLANNING what to wear in spring/ summer! Fashion weeks already give you the one and only inspo, all you have to do now is scroll on to see what you can rock this spring & summer!
I can't think of any other elements that are more playful than stripes. Every kind of stripes you can rock this spring/summer: from thin stripes suit like Rag & Bone to irregular ones at Sonia Rykiel. Fendi upgrades the basic blue stripe shirts to blazers, even dresses and shoulder bag. Mulberry has quite a lot of stripe outfits, like the burgundy blazer and royal blue silk dress. Well, it's never too much in stripes, is it??
In ss17, the most outstanding style must go to ruffles. They appear in every show and crazily crawl over each piece. At House of Holland, dress with layers and layers of ruffles has that typical sweetness and western cow-girl look. While at Gucci, the good old detailed ones are replaced by powerful red, big and loud ruffle waves. The one that actually impresses me is the Micheal Kors clutch. With romantic jaw-dropping white waves details, this bag is definitely the first one to choose when going on a date this spring.
Yellow Yellow Yellow! This yellow trend is what my life is for! Yellow always be that pop of color and I cannot get enough of it. In ss17, yellow fever spreads like fire and no one can resist it, even Karl Lagerfeld. At Naeem Khan, designer surely brings this color to the next level by using it in tassel dress (take a deep breath and appreciate it) I love how Donatella brings up the neon color into the cross body bag making it a statement piece. If you are afraid to wear yellow before, this spring/summer be bold and give it a try!
That 2000s trendy "spaghetti strap over tops" was back last year and this season has something a bit different. Only wearing a bra top or wear it under a blazer/ coat are both new ways to rock bralettes. It's not that kind of "those Kim K wears or Fashionova.com sells" tops, they are more lingerie-like or sport bra that DKNY has, making sure you dress chic af.
Now that wide sleeves clothes are everywhere in stores, isn't it time for more creative and eye-catching sleeves?? Lantern and bubble sleeves are here to slay! These designs remind me so much of clothes people used to wear in Renaissance, which "puffy" sleeves are so popular in royals. Simone Rocha comes out with the fabulous bubble sleeves, big and make sure you look like a cool queen in them. I LOVE the pale purple shirt Marque's Almeida has, it's like the modern version of what 17-century knights would wear.
Many people is not a fan of pink, but this spring/ summer you cannot miss this color. Instead of choosing pale pink or dusty rose, give hot pink a try. This bright, outstanding color is seen in ss17 fashion weeks. Designers love it. Pink can be so gentle like the way Karl Lagerfeld used in Chanel, yet crazy as Balenciaga brings back the 80s vibes. At Valentino, there are all kinds of pink shades in the collection, mostly in dresses. If you have been shutting the door on pink, open your heart and find that shade of pink suits you the best this season.
Prada surprises us with bunch of chess patterns this season, with lots and lots of chess print blazer and even heels (omg I really digging these heels)! Instead of giving out the school, nerdy vibes like Prada does, House of Holland goes for the western cow-girl look with leather belt emphasizing waist. Jeremy Scott and Donatella don't think chess is for school or country vibes for sure, it is all about racing!!!! They both use chess patterns in cool sets and body suits for racing girls.
I have to say the moment I saw how detailed floral embroideries in Dolce & Gabbana are, I scream like a crazy fangirl. With 3D and embroideries deets, Dolce & Gabbana literally killing it in this floral trend. I feel like this floral trend never ends (well, in a good way tho), but how to dress it REAL fashionable?? See how Balenciaga does it: neon green as the base and adding bright red as flower colors, didn't your eyes almost blind becuz of how bright it is??
Have you ever have that strong feeling when buying a blazer and can't help wondering if there is matching pants out there?? Cuz I have, like all the time. Now that relaxing suits are becoming a thing now, you shouldn't have a reason not to spend a bit money on matchin' blazer and pants. When it comes to relaxing suits, I love (and always) to wear a basic t-shirt underneath (it can also be band tees or use color blocking (hey! Read my last post). Also, DKNY is suggesting you wear a blazer as top, sexy and sporty!
I refuse to end this article without mentioning metallic is still here!!! Balmain brings back 2000s thick platform sandal with shiny diamonds on it; while at Kenzo, shiny waist bag can be the statement piece. YSL is so great at bringing 80s trends back (remember fw16 YSL literally NAILED it??), so is this spring/summer with metallic deep V romper. Metallic and shiny things are not over yet, which makes me so happy and excited for more shiny clothes to come.
Here comes to the end of this post! I hope you are inspired and already have ideas what to wear this spring/summer, fashionistas. SS17 is not planning to let you dress cheap or sloppy, it is going to GRAB YOU, CATCH YOU and make you the chicest chick in your friends. Have an open heart to everything, then you can be creative and stylish.
